Cute little place with a relaxing yet elegant atmosphere. The Pork Belly and Fried Goat Cheese salad are a must for starters! My Short Rib entree was very savory and tender, and my boyfriend’s Duck entree was fabulous. This one lands on a must return list

From the moment we walked in, the ambiance set the tone—warm lighting, cozy seating, and a lively yet relaxed atmosphere that felt authentically Parisian. The wait staff were incredibly attentive and professional, striking that perfect balance of being present without hovering. Every detail, from water refills to menu recommendations, was handled with care and a genuine smile. And the food—absolutely amazing. Each dish was beautifully prepared and bursting with flavor, from the perfectly cooked rabbit to the rich, velvety sauces that accompanied my moules. It’s clear the kitchen takes pride in both quality and presentation. Whether you're a Francophile or just appreciate great food and service, this restaurant is a must-visit. It captures the heart and soul of a French brasserie right here at home!

Absolutely incredible. First things first, it was the best steak I’ve ever eaten in my life. I never thought I would be saying that about a strip steak from a French restaurant but here we are. This is what I hope to be served when I visit highly revered steak houses throughout the country, but I’ll always be let down when comparing to 39 Rue de Jean. The Demi-Glace was absolute perfection. The cook on the steak was slightly above the requested medium rare, but after the first bite I would’ve eaten it well done & not had any complaints. There’s not a chance I’ll be visiting Charleston again without trying the filet. Kudos. The pork belly was delicious as well. A crispy bark on the exterior & melt in your mouth interior. The slaw was bright & paired perfectly, and the sweet potato mash made it all come together nicely. The short rib really lacked in comparison. A bit oily, not as warm as I’d prefer and overall could’ve used more seasoning. The Caesar was good, made traditionally and made fresh, can’t go wrong there. Service was great. Attentive, quick, and friendly. Overall it was a great experience, I’m looking forward to the next visit!

We stopped in for a brunch. The atmosphere was inviting, and our server was very courteous. He provided exemplary service, ensuring our every need was met and making us feel like valued guests. The sandwich I had was incredible and so unique; Braised Short Rib w/ Goat Cheese, pommes frites and an aioli. Better than good! I’ve been to Charleston many times but never been to Rue de Jean. Glad I got this place on my radar now.

This is a fantastic restaurant and our #1 favorite in Charleston! The food is incredible! Chef Letha creates French favorites with the perfect blend of flavor and excitement. The food quality and service is always outstanding. The atmosphere is casual and warm, not stuffy. On our last visit, our sever, Dwayne, went way over the top to welcome us and make sure that we had a wonderful dining experience. He was perhaps the best server that we have ever experienced for his kindness and attentiveness. Mike, the manager, stopped at our table several times and was so happy to see us. (We visit Charleston twice a year by boat on our trips up and down the coast and this is always our first stop). Chef Letha also visited our table several times and topped off our experience with fabulous desserts. Although we always enjoy our experience at 39 Rue de Jean, during this visit Chef Letha, Dwayne and Mike left such a remarkable imprint that will remain with us for a very long time. Charleston has many fine eating establishments but none has more heart than this one. This compassion clearly shows in the food and service they provide.

We ate here on a busy Saturday night. The wait was a reasonable 30 minutes since we lacked reservations. The outside table underneath the gas lantern was quaint and the server was attentive and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the Brussel sprouts and our individual meals of short rib and filet. I was somewhat impressed by the architecture of the interior but the tent on the side of the restaurant in an alleyway was a less accommodating sport for a dinner.

What a beautiful dining experience!! Every one of the dishes we shared was gorgeous and so amazing. The Wine list is extensive (and check out the 1/2 price deals on Mondays!) We had mussels, rabbit, duck, and lamb. Our server was attentive and engaging.

The food and the atmosphere are great and the service was pretty good. Our server cleared after the appetizer and didn't bring any silverware back to the table. Our entree arrived and then noticed the missing silverware. Fortunately a busser came around and we asked him for some. We loved dining on the patio and highly recommend trying their brunch.
